September 28th, 2012 - BILD That’s why Tokio Hotel moved to America

“We had no home anymore.”

Through the monsoon, around the world: At the highest point of their success the “Tokio Hotel” - twins Bill and Tom (23) left Germany - and mov
ed to Los Angeles. Two years of silence. Now they are back in their homeland - as “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” judges! Tom and Bill gave BILD their first interview on the set of the talent show.

BILD: Already discovered today some talents?
Bill: Yes, there were some good people there …
Tom: But no one who blew our minds. At least not today.

BILD: How do you get along with Dieter Bohlen?
Bill: We haven’t met Dieter before, but have been looking forward to do with him the anniversary season of DSDS. We got along really well right away and have a lot of fun.

BILD: You know the dark side of show business, which helps for sure at the casting, right?
Bill: I have also seen candidates, about which I thought: “No, that’s just not your thing …
Tom: Those who just want to be famous, really annoy me. Being famous is just a side effect, if someone is really good at something. If you can’t do anything, you should not even be famous.

BILD: Two years ago, you have left Germany. How is your life in Los Angeles?
Bill: We have now tried two years, quite consistently, to hide. We wanted a place where we can withdraw to have some privacy. We feel comfortable in L.A., live together with our four dogs.

BILD: Why you fled literally?
Tom: We were just five years on the road non-stop, and had no more retreat. We really had the feeling that we have no home anymore - it was eventually not important where we sleep.

BILD: A terrible feeling …
Tom: Yes. Eventually it got to the point where it was a bit too much and then we thought about it: Where can we ever go? And above all, we also wanted a place where we can finally be creative.

BILD: … and record a new album?
Tom: In L.A. we can simply record, relaxed, new music - that has brought us further, artistically. Some of this (songs) people will never hear, but some already.

BILD: Is there already a date for a new album?
Tom: That’s in the process. We won’t rush ourselves.

BILD: Where do you feel at home today?
Bill: Actually, always where our family is. Of course, our roots are in Germany, it always will be the feeling of home. But Tom and I can settle down anywhere fast.

BILD: Bill, you’ve visually also changed quite a bit, the skeleton tattoo on your hand is so blatant …
Bill: I’ve already started it early! I got my first piercing at 13, my first tattoo at 15. I’ve always loved tattoo, in past years I didn’t had much time to get new ones. Now I design some new with a tattoo artist in L.A.

BILD: You’ve got quite a lot muscles …
Bill (laughing): You do what you can …

Aachener Zeitung #224 (Germany 2012)

Tokio Hotel twins as judges in the show "DSDS"

RTL cleverly selling. The stars of Tokio Hotel Bill and Tom Kaulitz (in the picture) beside Dieter Bohlen and leader Mateo from Culcha Candela are the new
jury now showing "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" ("DSDS"). This is the way to catch two birds: the adolescent group again, and the television station hopes to raise young. For doing this, the twins (23) came back to Germany, interrupting their two-year creative break. Recording began in Berlin, and the tenth season will air in January 2013. RTL, is armed with new jurors of their show, they talk about "the TV sensation of the year." The show which recently fell slightly in ratings is "Supertalent", the second largest show of castings. This RTL format is trying to attract viewers, having captured the Tokio Hotel twins.

Bill & Tom Kaulitz - Punkt 12 (RTL) (25.09.2012)

Roberta Bieling (presenter): We’re back again. Pop [music] titan meets teen idols. Will this go well? Many people asked themselves [that question] prior to the new DSDS judging panel’s first work day together yesterday. In fact Dieter Bohl
en and the twins from Tokio Hotel really met for the first time at the judges’ desk. Why Dieter had to poke fun at his new colleagues straight away and what it is that Bill and Tom would really want to get out of their new job now. Simon E. and Christina G. have witnessed it all.
Voice-over: Arrival of DSDS’ new male quartet. [Itis their] first work day, first encounter and sure thing, first of all top dog Dieter Bohlen has to sniff at newcomer Bill Kaulitz.
*Subtitles*
Bohlen *sniffing at Bill’s neck*: “What is that then? Smells good!“
Voice-over: So [they’re] off to a good start. However, clearly the pop [music] titan and the band with the manga style are not on quite the same wavelength visually speaking.
Dieter: I’ve also got something like that at home. Well yeah, only [difference is] that it’s a carpet.
*Bill laughing*
Bill *laughing*: I thought I’d just turn up a little plainly dressed for the first day, right? I’ve left the crazy outfits in the wardrobe.
*Dieter laughing*
Voice-over: However, both of them brought along a clear notion of their job and also an idea of the potential new superstar.
Bill: Actually I’m assuming that we’ll immediately realise it when there are good candidates before us and when there is potential. Erm, secretly I’m hoping that there will be good women this year.
Voice-over: And the ladies should be in with rather good chances when facing the very first all male judging panel. That’s if, yes, if they’re not left without their voice due to all the nervousness.
Brunette girl: Really cool. Quite nice. Erm, I would’ve never guessed, really. So, wow… great. Really.
Blonde girl: In the past I actually used to be a Tokio Hotel fan and I haven’t… I haven’t heard anything about them in the media for a long time and now I’ve seen you… I’ve seen them on the DSDS screen just now.
Voice-over: And with all the shyness with strangers, even Dieter Bohlen says “Tokio Hotel: I would’ve also loved to have discovered them.”
Dieter: Those two… they wouldn’t have had to sing if they had come to DSDS back then. I would’ve put them through just like that and that’s also my opinion.
Voice-over: Even Culcha Candela front man Mateo, the forth one of the judges bunch, is quite fascinated by his new colleagues, Bill and Tom.
Mateo: I can’t get enough of looking at the guys. I’m finding it hard to stare into the camera. I’d actually rather, erm, exchange styling advice. Erm, or talk about tattoos, right?
Tom: Have you got some?
Mateo: For sure! Nah. You?
*starting to talk about each other’s tattoos*
Voice-over: There’ll probably be more than enough opportunities to chat and maybe Dieter and Bill will even swap clothes some day. That’s to see in the tenth DSDS season. Though, unfortunately [it] only starts in January.

BIll & Tom Kaulitz - RTL Punkt 6/9 (25.09.2012) TRANSLATION

Presenter : We are all excited to see again Bill and Tom. Tokio Hotel has begun to work with their colleagues of the entirely male DSDS's jury. And with Dieter Bohlen and Mateo from the band Culcha Candela, all musicians in the blood, they want to give the chord and not only with a musical point of view. That's it, it was a little barbed comment before the beginning. Our journalists were there and have met the first candidates of the audition after they passed in front of the jury.
The new male jury of DSDS enters after sniff themselves with caution during the first common photo session.
Dieter Bohlen, Tokio Hotel's twins, Tom and Bill Kaulitz and Mateo, leader of the band Culcha Candela. The twins were particularly liked by the first candidates who presented themselves.
Girl 1: I think it's really good the manner how they built themselves as a band, but also the manner how Bill has changed of look and I still like him a lot.
Boy 1: I had a really positive impression of them.
Girl 2: Really nice, really cool. I will have never believe it. Woo, awesome. They are real people, really nice, really cool and so on.
Lots of enthusiasm for the twins of Tokio Hotel. Do the others members of the jury will make with it? Moreover, the jury's boss Dieter Bohlen can't stop to do a remark about Bill's dress.
Dieter Bohlen: You see, I have the same at home. Except that is a carpet.
Bill: I told myself that I will wear something simple for the first day. I don't want to scare them.
Journalist: What do you think of Bill and Tom's dresses?
Dieter Bohlen: Awesome. I've never met people so little boring than them.
Because boring, this common work will certainly not be. They are curious one another.
Bill: He ( Dieter Bohlen ) has already done all the others seasons and it's really good because somebody who has participated to so many seasons inevitably knows, and we are delighted to work with him.
Dieter Bohlen: When I was still young and I was in studio, seated next to my producers, I thought they just said bullshit and I wanted to know what they thought.
It will also be exciting to know what candidates think and if Bill and Dieter will find something in common about clothing subject.

x Muz-TV, PRO-News - Bill & Tom Kaulitz @ DSDS (25.09.2012)

RTL Exclusiv - 24.09.2012 TRANSLATION

Frauke Ludowig (presenter): Today the sensational new DSDS judging panel had its first work day. The guys from Tokio Hotel even came back fr
om LA for “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. What objection Bohlen has with Bill Kaulitz’ outfit and whether Bill can get along with the pop [music] titan: Simon E. and Martina F. [report about it].
Voice-over: If this will go well? [There are] so many alpha animals in one place. The four gentlemen are meeting each other for the very first time today. It’s still totally uncertain whether the chemistry is right or not.

This is the smashing new DSDS judging panel: Dieter Bohlen, Tom and Bill Kaulitz from Tokio Hotel and Mateo, front man of the band Culcha Candela. [It’s the] first photo shoot together. Bohlen sniffs at Bill.

*Subtitles*

Bohlen *sniffing at Bill’s neck*: “What is that then? Smells good.“

And Tom and Mateo compare tattoos.
Tom *pointing to his arm*: Then I’ve also got another one here.
Mateo: Yes, I’ve got a few.

Voice.over: And of course Dieter can’t refrain from making a comment about Bill’s rag.

Dieter: I’ve also got something like that at home. Well yeah, only [difference is] that it’s a carpet.

*Bill laughing*

Dieter: But apart from that I’ve got the same… well…
Tom: I’ve got something like that… I’ve got something like that down below. That’s what my down below looks like. Looks bigger [...]
Dieter *laughing*: Yuck.
Bill *laughing*: I thought I’d just turn up a little plainly dressed for the first day, right? I’ve left the crazy outfits in the wardrobe.
*Dieter laughing*
*in background Tom talking about his hand tattoo: Nope, nope. [It’s] my time of birth. I’ve got 6.20am and he’s got 6.30am.*

Interviewer: Dieter, what do you think about Bill and Tom’s outfit?

Dieter: [It’s] wicked of course. Well, [there’s] nothing I dislike more than boring people.

Voice-over: And Mr Kaulitz, what’s your first impression of the pop [music] titan?

Bill laughing as Dieter threateningly shows him his fist* Erm, we’re extremely happy. Well, like we’ve said before, we’ve never met before and erm, we’re of course happy. After all Dieter has already worked on all the [previous] seasons and erm, it’s obviously very good to have someone sitting next to you who has just been on so many seasons already, who knows the robes exactly and of course we’re happy to be a part of it.

Voice-over: For DSDS Bill and Tom are even halting their work on the new album with Tokio Hotel and are returning into the public eye and to Germany after almost two years of taking a break from the media. And they’re joining DSDS with quite a special wish.

Bill: Erm, secretly I’m hoping that there will be good women this year because so far too few women have won this after all. I’d think it’s great if there could be a female artist once again because there are too few good female artists in Germany, I think.

Dieter: This is also why there isn’t one on the judging panel. *laughing*

Bill: Yeah, that’s why I’d be… We’d be really happy about it, I think.
Tom: We were looking for a female [to join the judging panel but] didn’t find one.
Mateo: Well, the thing about the Playboy for this year, right? I’d be willing to have a make-over if there’s a good offer.
Tom: I’d also do it.

Voice-over: Whether or not one of the guys really gets undressed for the Playboy? Whether or not Dieter ends up wearing Bill’s fluffy little jacket after all and whether or not everything here stays in harmony as much as it appeared to be today? We’ll only reveal that to you in January though. Unfortunately that’s how long we’ll have to wait for the new DSDS season.

RTL II News (RTL II) - 24.09.2012 TRANSLATION

Presenter: Bill and Tom from Tokio Hotel have started their new job. Alongside Dieter Bohlen and Culcha Candela singer Itchy they’re judges for “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. In addition, the twins are also working on a new record and once again they’ve got a new look since taking their creative break. More from Nadja D.
Voice-over:White hair, mo
re tattoos and clearly more exercise, yet still unmistakably Tokio Hotel. For the first time Bill and Tom Kaulitz are in Germany again after [having been] in LA for two years and as newly-appointed casting judges they’re mainly looking for an authentic up-and-coming star here.
Tom:That a person walks in where you, like, say: „Awesome, somehow that’s already an artist!“ Meaning, it’s some kind of talent, it’s a person who just is the way they are and that’s good like that. And that you only have to polish them a bit so to speak.
Bill: Also recognition value. Well, that’s totally important to me.
Tom: At the end of the day we’re looking for everything that Bill hasn’t got. And what I have got.
Bill: Yes.

Voice-over: The 23-year old twins have got enough work experience. They’ve been standing on a stage professionally since 2005, [and] sold more than six million records. Work on album number four is in full swing by the way.

Bill: Actually we’ve been in the studio all this time, erm, day and night. Tom and I also got a studio in our home. We’ve got a home studio, erm, yes, we’re also producing an awful lot ourselves and are, like, writing. And that’s why all of this now is also just a good and very welcome change.
Voice-over: Maybe the alleged €500.000 pay also played a part in Bill and Tom joining the casting now and didn’t already do so for competitor „The Voice“ last year.
Tom: Bottom line is that for me the urge to also just nurture young people musically became so strong that I said I’d do it for free. Bill got sh*t loads of money and erm, that’s the truth.
*Bill laughing*

Voice-over: Anyway, the two of them had to work today already. How strict Tokio Hotel’s judgements are will not be shown until next year though.

promiflash.de - DSDS - That's why Tokio Hotel's twins take part

The twins of Tokio Hotel (both 23) have avoid spotlights during the past two years and have withdrawn in Los Angeles. Until today ! It is today that recordings for DSDS ( Ndt: the german equivalent of American Idol, abridged in DSDS). Tom and Bill take part from today to the auditions in Berlin.

It is in an interview granted to RTL
that Bill explains the reason of their engagement in DSDS : “We have tried to completely retreat ourselves of the public life these last years in order to come back in studio and also having a break. The proposition of RTL came at a good time and we are able to do it beside our continuous work in studio.”
Until now, the twins have refused every offer of this kind. It was never a question of taking part of another program. “We have always said that, if we had to be jurors somewhere, it would be in the biggest show with a special format.”
The last prompt was given by Steve Tyler (64) “He was juror last year in the american version of DSDS (American Idol)! We think it is a good thing that TV talent shows choose real artists to be juror for more seriousness and musical demand.” declared Tom.

Anyway, we are ready and excited to see the twins as jurors.
It will begin in January 2013, finally !
